Cortical magnification in human visual cortex parallels task performance around the visual field

چکیده
Human vision has striking radial asymmetries, with performance on many tasks varying sharply stimulus polar angle. Performance is generally better the horizontal than vertical meridian, and lower upper these asymmetries decrease gradually deviation from meridian. Here, we report cortical magnification at a fine angular resolution around visual field. This precision enables comparisons between behavior, retinal cell densities, in twin pairs. We show that human primary cortex, measured 163 subjects, varies substantially field, pattern similar to behavior. These cortex are larger those found retina, they correlated monozygotic findings indicate tight link topography suggest field partly heritable.

The relationship between cortical magnification factor and population receptive field size in human visual cortex: constancies in cortical architecture.
Receptive field (RF) sizes and cortical magnification factor (CMF) are fundamental organization properties of the visual cortex. At increasing visual eccentricity, RF sizes increase and CMF decreases. A relationship between RF size and CMF suggests constancies in cortical architecture, as their product, the cortical representation of an RF (point image), may be constant. Previous animal neuroph...

ABSTRACT Background: The brain response to temporal frequencies (TF) has been already reported, but with no study reported for different TF with respect to various spatial frequencies (SF). Materials and Methods: fMRI was performed by 1.5T GE-system in 14 volunteers during checkerboard, with TFs of 4, 6, 8 and 10Hz in low and high SFs of 0.5 and 8cpd. Results: Average percentage BOLD signa...
متن کاملEstimating linear cortical magnification in human primary visual cortex via dynamic programming.
Human primary visual cortex is organized retinotopically, with adjacent locations in cortex representing adjacent locations on the retina. The spatial sampling in cortex is highly nonuniform: the amount of cortex devoted to a unit area of retina decreases with increasing retinal eccentricity. This sampling property can be quantified by the linear cortical magnification factor, which is expresse...

TBS (Theta Burst Stimulation) and PBs (Primed Bursts) are among effective tetanic stimulations for induction of LTP in hippocampus. Recent studies have indicated that TBS is effective in LTP induction in layer III synapses of neocortex, only if applied to layer IV. However, the possibility of neocortical LTP induction using PBs, has not yet been investigated. Sensory deprivation greatly influ...

The visual world of an organism can be idealized as a sphere. Locomotion towards the pole causes translation of retinal images that is proportional to the sine of eccentricity of each object. In order to estimate the human striate cortical magnification factor M, we assumed that the cortical translations, caused by retinal translations due to the locomotion, were independent of eccentricity. Th...
